Australian cricket legend Jason Gillespie has called out Pakistan's head coach after their early exit from the ICC Champions Trophy.

Pakistan, the tournament's host nation, finished last in Group A after losing to India and New Zealand.

“We changed 16 coaches in the last 2.5 years and 26 selectors, if you do this to any team around the world, their performance will be like this too,” Pakistan coach Aaqib Javed said in a press conference on Tuesday.

“I take full responsibility for the team's performance and whatever decision you think I need to take while being responsible, I will not step away from any harsh decision.”

Jason Gillespie, who resigned as Pakistan's coach in December after disagreements with the country's cricket board, dismissed Aaqib's reasoning.

“This is hilarious. Aaqib was clearly undermining Gary and I behind the scenes campaigning to be the coach in all formats,” Gillespie wrote on Threads, in response to the post.

“He is a clown.”

Aaqib took over as head coach in all three formats following Gillespie's resignation, which came after he refused to join the squad for their tour of South Africa.

Gillespie claims he was kept in the dark on key decisions, including the dismissal of high-performance coach Tim Nielson without being informed.

India will take on New Zealand in the ICC Champions Trophy final this Sunday.
