Hobart Hurricanes veteran Matthew Wade will miss his side's Christmas Eve clash with the Melbourne Renegades after receiving a one-game suspension.

Wade has received his third strike against the BBL's code of conduct after he was caught swearing during his side's six-run loss to the Sydney Sixers on Thursday.

The conduct breach is Wade's third within 18 months, having already been charged with audible obscenity as well as a charge of abuse of cricket equipment.

The combination of the three penalties will mean Wade is sidelined for the Hurricanes' matchup with the Renegades on Saturday at Blundstone Arena.

"Hobart Hurricanes captain, Matthew Wade, has been suspended for one KFC Big Bash League match," a club statement reads.

"Wade incurred one suspension point after incurring three Level 1 Code of Conduct breaches within 18 months. The charges in that period relate to two instances of use of an audible obscenity and one instance of abuse of cricket equipment.

"Wade will therefore miss today's match against the Melbourne Renegades at Blundstone Arena."

The Hurricanes have confirmed that former Australian captain Tim Paine has been added to their 15-man squad for Saturday's match, with the Tasmanian veteran potentially in line for a return to the BBL.

Paine stepped away from his playing duties as Australia's captain in 2021 following an off-field scandal involving a female colleague.

Star batsman Ben McDermott could also be the man to take the gloves in Wade's place.

Wade has featured in all three of Hobart's BBL|12 matches so far this season, recording 101 runs at an average of 33.67, while he has also taken two catches and claimed one stumping.

The veteran wicketkeeper will be available to play against the Sydney Thunder next Saturday when the Hurricanes make the trip to Albury.

Hobart will enter their clash with Melbourne with a 1-2 record after falling to the Stars in their opening match before defeating Perth earlier this week.

Wade sits ninth in the BBL's all-time runs tally with 2257 runs to his name from 84 matches, a career that spans across the Hurricanes and both Melbourne franchises.
