Tennis superstar Rafael Nadal remains tightlipped on whether this year will be his last on the tennis court.
Coming off a disappointing 6-1,6-4 loss to rival Novak Djokovic in the second round of the Paris Olympics, Nadal continued to play coy when reporters asked after the match if he was nearing retirement.
Revealing that he has yet to make a decision, he stated that he will make an official decision on his future after the Olympics are completed.
Nadal remains in medal contention in the doubles competition with compatriot Carlos Alcaraz as he looks to finish his illustrious career with a third Gold Medal.
Unfortunately, his defeat to Djokovic sees him out of the singles tournament in only his fifth defeat at Roland Garros in 118 matches.
"I try to look forward," Nadal told reporters viaย The Daily Mail after the match against Djokovic.
"When this tournament is over, I will take the necessary decisions based on my feelings and desire. It is difficult to recover if I am thinking about whether I retire.
"For many people it makes little sense, I have been suffering for two years.
"If I feel that I am not competitive I will make the decision to stop. I just try my best every single day, trying to enjoy a thing that I have been enjoying for so much time.
"I have been suffering a lot of injuries the last two years.
"So if I feel that I am not competitive enough to keep going or physically I'm not ready to keep going I will stop and let you know."
