Emerging Australian all-rounder Cameron Green secured a huge payday at the IPL Mini Auction on Friday night, with the Mumbai Indians signing the Western Australian with a bid of approximately A$3.15million.
Green was among the top earners at the auction, with English trio Sam Curran (approx. A$3.33 million), Ben Stokes (A$2.9 million) and Harry Brook (A$2.38 million) also coming away with significant deals.
Currans' move to the Punjab Kings comes as the biggest buy in IPL history, with the Englishman securing the paycheque off the back of his T20 World Cup heroics.
Green, who hasn't been a consistent part of Australia's T20 XI, was still among the top earners given the glimpses he's shown on both the domestic and international stages with the bat and ball.
"I'm pinching myself that this has all happened," Green said, via Cricket Australia.
"It's such a weird feeling watching an auction for yourself. I can't believe how nervous I was and I was shaking like anything when the final call was confirmed.
"I've always been a huge fan of the IPL and it's going to be so cool to be a part of it.
"The Mumbai Indians are one of the powerhouses of the competition so I feel very humbled to be joining them. I can't wait to get there next year."
He wasn't the only Australian that secured an IPL deal overnight, with Jhye Richardson (Mumbai Indians - A$270,700), Adam Zampa (Rajasthan Royals - A$270,700) and Daniel Sams (Lucknow Super Giants - A$135,000) all gaining bids.
The quartet join a further nine Australians in IPL for the 2023 season, with Josh Hazlewood (Royal Challengers Bangalore), Glenn Maxwell (Royal Challengers Bangalore), David Warner (Delhi Capitals), Mitch Marsh (Delhi Capitals), Tim David (Mumbai Indians), Jason Behrendorff (Mumbai Indians), Matthew Wade (Gujurat Titans), Marcus Stoinis (Lucknow Super Giants) and Nathan Ellis (Punjab Kings) already retained by their respective franchises.
South Australian Travis Head, Tassie paceman Riley Meredith and WA quick Lance Morris all went unsold at the auction.
