It wasn't enough to book the Hobart Hurricanes a spot in the final, but it did cost the Brisbane Heat a home eliminator, and club chairperson Ian Healy has blasted a horrid run chase from the Queensland-based club to end the BBL regular season as "ridiculous."
The Heat, who scrape into the finals, will now have to travel to Sydney where they will take on the Sydney Thunder at the notoriously difficult Sydney Showgrounds Stadium.
The Heat could have - and should have - been hosting the winner of the fourth and five-placed clash however, with a win over the Hurricanes having the ability to take them up to third spot on the table.
At one point, chasing just 121, the Heat found themselves needing 19 runs from 4 overs with 6 wickets in hand. The Heat ultimately managed just 16 runs, and it has since been described as one of the biggest chokes in BBL history.
Healy wasn't shy in blasting the team he resides over when speaking on SENQ Radio.
โIt was ridiculous,โ Healy said on SENQ's Pat and Heals.
โWe made so many mistakes in that game yesterday, things didn't make sense.
โThe Brisbane Heat collapsed against the Hobart Hurricanes, they got them out for 120 and we were cruising but then we didn't take the surge when our best partnership was in action.
โ(We hit) bad shots, hit the ball in the air too much, our shot selection when we needed one run a ball, we were trying to hit 12s.
โWe got out, they kept the ball in the air when it should have been along the ground, guiding balls to fine leg and third man, into gaps.
โWhat's between the bowler and the sight screen? A fair bit of territory, they should have put the ball there occasionally.โ
The Heat's knockout final against the Thunder will be played on Friday, January 27 at 7:15pm (AEDT).
