Australian fast bowler Mitchell Johnson has revealed the impact of Phillip Hughes' death.

Johnson says that the recent death of Hughes had an impact on his recent drop in pace and form.

The feared fast bowler's speed reduced during India's tour of Australia and also during the IPL and recent West Indies tour.

Johnson admitted to the ABC that the tragic events of last summer contributed to his form slump.

"I'm not someone who makes excuses, but we went through a bit of a time just before that with Phillip Hughes and that was something very difficult, and it was really hard to sort of deal with it at times," he said.

"We were definitely underprepared at that time and my pace was definitely off."
