Australia's left-arm orthodox spinner Jess Jonassen suffered a hamstring injury during her side's T20 win over India in Mumbai on Friday and will miss the remainder of the ongoing series.

Just two months away from the T20 World Cup, she will undergo rehabilitation at home, with leg-spinner Amanda-Jade Wellington selected as her replacement.

"It's evident that the timeframes required for a return during this series are too short," Australia physio Kate Beerworth said, viaย The Canberra Times.ย

"Jess will be unavailable for the remainder of the series and will return to Brisbane to continue her rehab."

While she did play a part in Australia's T20 World Cup victory in 2020 at home, injuries have plagued Jonassen in the past; with a knee injury preventing her from playing in her side's 2018 World Cup win.

With several spin options in Australia's possession, namely Alana King, Georgia Wareham and current replacement, Amanda-Jade Wellington, there will be pressure on Jonassen to prove her fitness ahead of the February World Cup in South Africa.

She will be a pivotal part of her side assuming she can recover and return to the team swiftly.
