Matildas star Sam Kerr is set to return to the field after a long recovery from a serious knee injury.

Kerr ruptured her ACL in January and has spent nearly 12 months recovering from the injury.

Having played for Chelsea for four years, Kerr has made 75 appearances in the Women's Super League (WSL).

Speaking on BBC's Women's Football Weekly podcast, Kerr said she's feeling strong and healthy as she nears her return.

“I feel good, I feel strong, I feel healthy and my mind feels good, so I'm in a good place,” she said.

While Kerr didn't go into detail about her recovery, she hinted on social media that her return is close.

She shared a post celebrating five years at Chelsea with the caption, “five years with Chelsea, be back soon.”

Kerr is just one goal away from hitting 100 goals for Chelsea, and her return to the WSL is sure to excite fans.

It's expected she could return to action on December 16 against Leicester or January 20 against West Ham.

Although some of her Matildas teammates, like defender Ellie Carpenter, returned to play after a shorter recovery time of 9-10 months, Kerr is taking extra time to ensure her body is fully prepared before her comeback.

Interim Matildas coach Tom Sermanni has supported Kerr's cautious approach.

The Matildas squad for their upcoming matches against Brazil and Chinese Taipei is set to be announced on Friday.
