Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant is out of ICU but remains unable to receive MRI scans due to the pain and swelling of injuries sustained in a car crash in Roorkee last week.
Pant was travelling from Delhi on December 30 when the incident took place, with the 25-year-old rushed to a local hospital where he was placed in the ICU and would eventually be cleared of life-threatening injuries as well as brain and spine damage.
He would suffer swelling and pain in his knee and foot, and would also require plastic surgery to mend facial lacerations and abrasions suffered from the crash.
Pant has since been moved to a private ward in Dehradun, however he is currently unable to undergo scans on his legs due to the current state of his injuries, perย ESPN.ย
Once swelling and pain in the lower half of his body is reduced, MRI scans will be able to determine the full severity of his ailments.
It is unlikely that Pant will be deemed available for India's Test series against Australia, which will begin on February 9 at VCA Stadium in Nagpur.
That series will span four matches, the last of which taking place on March 9.
A strong series from the host nation could see them book a spot in the World Test Championship Final, most likely against Australia, in June at The Oval, England.
An ODI World Cup on home soil could be where Pant makes his international return should he be sidelined for a significant period, while the upcoming IPL competition might be an avenue for the keeper to make his return to the field, leading his franchise, the Delhi Capitals.
