Jess Fox has kept Australia's gold medal count ticking over on Day 2 at the Paris Olympics, while it was heartbreak in the final of the women's street skateboarding competition for Chloe Covell.

In what was a good day for the host nation, Leon Marchand would take out the men's 400-metre Individual Medley in the pool while Pauline Ferrand Prevot won the women's mountain biking race.

On the back of strong performances in skateboarding, fencing and judo, Japan have jumped to the top of the medal table, with South Korea (archery), the USA (shooting and swimming), China (shooting), Uzbekistan (judo) and Italy (swimming) the other countries to take home a gold medal on Day 2 in Paris.
