The New York Mets have completed a series clean sweep over the Chicago Cubs to reach the World Series.
The Mets defeated the Cubs 8-3, to complete a 4-0 National League series final rout, to reach their first World Series play-off since 2000.
The win was set up by five runs from Lucas Duda and a historic home run from Daniel Murphy.
Murphy blasted a two-run homer in the eighth inning to stretch his major league record streak of playoff games with a homer to six, breaking the old mark of five set by Carlos Beltran with Houston in 2004.
New York will aim to win their first title since 1986 against either the Kansas City Royals or the Toronto Blue Jays. The Royals currently lead the Blue Jays 3-2 and host game six on Friday.
