Luxembourg's Gilles Mueller has completed arguably the greatest win of his career, with an epic five-set, four hour and 48 minute win over world No.2 Rafael Nadal.
Muller, ranked 26 in the world, defeated Nadalย 6-3 6-4 3-6 4-6 15-13 to book his place in the quarter-final, where he will take on Croatia's Marin Cilic.
The 34-year-old journeyman amassed an astonishing 30 aces and 95 winners to oust the Spaniard, who was typically congratulatory of his opponent in defeat.
โHe played well and I didn't play well the first two sets,โ Nadal said post-match.
โThat meant I was playing against the score for the rest of the match.
โWell done for him and especially in the fifth. He played great game, I was there and I fighted (sic) to the last ball.
โIt was not my best match but, at the same time, I played my best against a very uncomfortable opponent.โ
Cilic, who awaits Muller in the next round, defeatedย Roberto Bautista Agut 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 to advance to the quarters.
