Rafael Nadal's 2017 resurgence has continued, winning his second Grand Slam of the year, defeating Kevin Anderson in straight sets to claim his third US Open title.
Nadal was far too good from the outset for the South African, who was playing his first Slam final, winning 6-3, 6-3, 6-4.
Anderson fought hard in the opening set, which took a whopping 58 minutes, with his big serve keeping him in the set, despite Nadal pushing him all the way in his service games. However, eventually he cracked and Nadal broke Anderson twice to take the first.
In the second and third sets, Anderson's serve became less potent and Nadal's grip on the match tightened even further, racing to a comfortable win.
The win is Nadal's 16th Grand Slam title, now three behind Roger Federer.
