Australia are set to make at least two changes for the third and final ODI of the match of the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy, with all-rounder Marcus Stoinis sidelined through injury.

The hosting nation have already secured the Trophy after wins in the opening two matches, the most recent a 113-run victory in Cairns.

The pair of wins have allowed the Aussies to begin preparations for a busy schedule with one game remaining, with opener David Warner set to be managed for Sunday's clash at Cazaly's Stadium.

According to News.com.au's Nic Savage, Warner will join Stoinis, who has suffered a low-level side strain, in being omitted for the match.

Pace bowler Nathan Ellis is understood to have joined the Australian squad, with coach Andrew McDonald now needing to shift his batting order to face the Kiwis.

Warner's omission will mean captain Aaron Finch will hold his place atop the queue despite disastrous form, with Alex Carey or fellow gloveman Josh Inglis in the mix to partner their skipper.

A promotion up the order for Carey would see the middle-order shift, with Glenn Maxwell jumping to six in the likely result that all-rounder Cameron Green returns from soreness that saw him miss Thursday's thrashing over New Zealand.

McDonald will weigh up handing Inglis another cap, whether that be as an opener or at six, while bowlers Ashton Agar and Ellis may also be in the frame should Australia look for a longer tail.

Teams for the third ODI will be announced at the toss, with the match to commence at 2:20pm (AEST) on Sunday in Cairns.
