The most unwanted record in the Big Bash League tumbled in Hobart on Sunday night, as the Renegades took the biggest loss in BBL history, going down by 145 runs to the Sixers.
Michael Klinger's side were aiming to make it two wins from two for the 2020/21 season but fell embarrassingly short of Sydney's 4-205 total.
Sixers star Josh Philippe was on fire for the New South Wales side, hitting 95 in a career-best innings, with his side making a mind-blowing 144 runs off the final 11 overs.
However, the bulk of the pain for the Renegades was yet to come.
In what Klinger described as a “train wreck”, Melbourne were bowled out for 60 runs, recording the second-lowest total in Big Bash History.
Stephen O'Keefe and Ben Dwarshuis had a night out, bowling 3-16 and 4-13 respectively to decimate the Renegades.
Melbourne's measly total is second-worst only to the 57-run total that they dished up against the Stars in 2015, where they slumped to a 112-run defeat.
However, Michael Klinger has defended the Renegades, saying their calamitous loss was not down to the side's tactics, nor their lack of heart.
“The tactics were fine, and boys had a crack. It just got worse because of our execution when we tried to go for that point.
“It just didn't work out.”
The Renegades will have a chance to redeem themselves next week as they go up against the Hurricanes in Hobart, whilst the reigning champions Sydney will play Adelaide next weekend.
