Former Australia coach Justin Langer has been named head coach of the IPL's Lucknow Super Giants, replacing Andy Flower.

Langer, who relinquished his role as Australia's boss in early 2022, has a successful history in T20 coaching, having previously led the Perth Scorchers to three BBL titles.

Langer succeeds Flower as the Super Giants' new mentor, with Flower continuing in a consultancy role with Australia's test squad amid its Ashes battle in England.

Langer praised Lucknow's 'great story' in the IPL as part of a statement released by the franchise upon appointing the Australian.

"Lucknow Super Giants are on the journey of building a great story in the IPL," Langer said in the statement.

"We all have a role to play in that journey and I am excited to be a part of the team moving forward."

Super Giants owner Sanjiv Goenka chimed in on Langer's hire, stating: "I have enjoyed my interactions with Justin Langer. He seems to bring in a huge amount of aggression and a lot of clarity."

While Langer hasn't coached in the IPL previously, his prestigious coaching history is thought to hold him in good stead in his newest venture.
