Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler reportedly applied for the Newcastle Jets coaching position, on the day that Mark Jones was officially handed the job.
NBN News Reporter Paddy Kilmurray said that the 41-year-old, who had stints with the North Queensland Fury and Perth Glory, handed an application in to the club, but was ultimately too late.

Fowler has previously enjoyed roles in the coaching department of MK Dons and Muangthong United and has worked with Liverpool FC's academy, but has never been the head coach before.
During the striker's career his timing was impeccable on most occasions, but it seems as though not everything gets better with age.
