American Scottie Scheffler has won the 2024 Masters at Augusta National by four shots with debutant Ludvig Aberg finishing in second place.
Scheffler was one of the favourites heading into the tournament, having been ranked the world number one since March 2022, and is the only player to win The Players Championship in back-to-back years.
The American was able to claim his second Masters, winning by four shots after the final round, just ahead of Sweden's Ludvig Aberg, who had attempted to become the first Masters debutant to win since Fuzzy Zoeller in 1979.
Cameron Smith (-2) was the best-ranked Australian in the tournament with Tommy Fleetwood, Max Homa, and Collin Morikawa tying for third place.
โI think it's a creative golf course and I'd like to think I play my best golf when I'm creative,โ Smith told Fox Sports.
โThere's so many shots that you get around here that you don't get the rest of the year. It's just such a cool place.
โIt's just a frustrating week, I think. I can't really say much more than that. I hit the ball how I needed to and put the ball in the right spots on the greens. It was very frustrating.
โI feel like that's as good as I've played around here.โ
In a remarkable story, he made it clear throughout the week that he would withdraw from the tournament if his wife went into labour during the event.
However, she didn't, meaning he will return home for the birth of his child as soon as the presentation duties are completed.
โI'm coming home,โ Scheffler said via theย Herald.
โI'll be home as quick as I can. I love you and I'm coming home.
โYou're about to make me cry in Butler Cabin. It's a very special time for both of us and I can't put it into words what it means to win this tournament again, and I really can't put it into words what it means to be a father for the first time.
โI'm looking forward to getting home and celebrating with Meredith. It's been a long week without her.โ
