Australian allrounder Sean Abbott has joined a new overseas T20 club that will see him play alongside compatriot and Perth Scorchers player Aaron Hardie.

On the fringe of being selected for Australia's T20 World Cup squad, Abbott will return to Surrey for the T20 Blast in the months of May and June.

The contract Abbott and Surrey have agreed to will see him play in both the County Championship and T20 Blast - four Championship fixtures and eight T20s from May 10 until June 26

However, it is expected that Abbott will miss the conclusion of the group stage matches due to playing in the Major League Cricket (MLC) competition in the United States.

His arrival sees him join Hardie, West Indies star Sunil Narine, and English stars Gus Atkinson, Sam Curran, Will Jacks, Reece Topley, Tom Curran, Chris Jordan and Jamie Overton.

"Sean is a highly skilled cricketer, and everyone saw last season what he is capable of in red-ball and white-ball cricket," Alec Stewart, Surrey's director of cricket, said.

"He had an outstanding impact as a cricketer and as a member of the dressing roomโ€ฆ Sean is exactly what we look for in an overseas professional at this club."
