The Sheffield Shield commenced proceedings on October 8, with all three four-day matches ending in drawn results.

There were some classy tons and electric bowling displays, as the summer of cricket gets underway across the country. Let's take a look at the key moments and performances from each Sheffield Shield match in the opening week of action.

Western Australia - 465 & 6d/263 drew 367 & 1/120 - Queensland

Key Performer: Josh Inglis (122 & 48)

Despite a damaging opening spell by Michael Neser, the reigning Sheffield Shield champions put together a formidable total in the opening innings of the match.

Neser struck gold with two wickets with the opening two balls of the match, before collecting a third to put WA at 3/18. Hilton Cartwright made a start with 38, but his wicket led to the man-of-the-match entering the WACA arena - Josh Inglis.

Inglis and opener Sam Whiteman produced a 203-run partnership, with both players reaching centuries. Inglis' 122 came off just 117 deliveries, whilst Whiteman took a patient approach, securing his ton off 237 balls.

Marnus Labuschagne produced a solid 77-run knock as he warms up for the Border-Gavaskar trophy series, whilst Jack Clayton also fell short of triple-figures with 85.

On track to match WA's opening total, Queensland stumbled once they hit the 300-run mark, losing 6/66 to be bowled out for 367.

Potential Cameron Green replacement Mitch Marsh batted strongly in WA's second innings, producing 94 runs before skying a pull shot into Jimmy Pierson's gloves. WA would soon declare just one wicket and 90 runs later, tasking Queensland with 362 runs for victory.

Australian test batsman Labuschagne and Usman Khawaja produced strong not-out efforts, scoring 31 and 64, respectively, before the captains shook hands at 4:22pm.
