Adelaide and the state of South Australia are reportedly set to be handed a monster snub when Cricket Australia release their fixtures for the summer of cricket on Sunday.
The Adelaide Oval, which has hosted a day-night Test in seven of the last eight summers during the December timeslot - normally against the biggest opposition who will tour that year - are reportedly set to have their fixture moved to a daytime slot in the middle of January.
Channel 9 are reporting the fixtures are already locked in for Cricket Australia, with a difficult summer commercially ahead.
The West Indies will tour for the second time in two years, playing two Tests. Both of those will come after a three-Test series against a more competitive Pakistan outfit, who will play in both the Boxing Day and New Year's Tests.
The summer of cricket will have a later start time than usual thanks to the ODI World Cup in India. That tournament doesn't finish until November 19, with Australia then set to remain in India for another fortnight to play five T20 matches.
That means Australia won't be home until early December, with the home international summer likely to feature one Test prior to Boxing Day.
Adelaide were gunning for that match, but it appears Cricket Australia have handed the rights to Perth. Adelaide also made a play for the New Year's Test, but that will remain in Sydney.
It now appears the two-Test series against the West Indies will take place in Adelaide and Brisbane during January, with Hobart and Canberra to miss out on red ball cricket.
It's one of the shortest home summers on record for the Aussie side, with just three ODIs and three T20Is to follow against the West Indies - venues for those matches are yet to be reported, but it's a fair chance both Hobart and Canberra will play a role, as well as Adelaide and Brisbane given they miss out on the Pakistan series.
The home summer, which starts in mid-December, will be over by mid-February, with Australia then scheduled to tour New Zealand for a pair of Test matches and three T20 internationals.
The Australians, who essentially don't have a break between when they play the World Test Championship final in June and the end of that series against New Zealand, will then have a breather until the 2024 T20 World Cup, which will be held in the United States of America and West Indies during June of that year.
