A former two-time UFC Heavyweight Champion, Stipe Miocic, has announced his retirement after losing to Jon Jones via knockout on Sunday at UFC 309.
"I'm done," Miocic said. "I'm hanging them up."
Returning to the UFC after a three-and-a-half-year hiatus from mixed martial arts, Miocic confirmed his retirement, ending a remarkable career that saw him finish with a record of 20-5 and victories over the likes of Daniel Cormier, Francis Ngannou and Mark Hunt, among several others.
Hailing from Euclid, Ohio, Miocic is highly regarded as one of the best UFC heavyweights of all time and is also a Golden Gloves boxing champion which he achieved before his time in the Octagon.
He currently holds the records for most wins in heavyweight title fights, longest defence streak in the heavyweight division, and most fight-night bonus awards, with nine.
"He's one of the greatest heavyweights ever," UFC CEO Dana White toldย ESPN.
"You can't deny Stipe. Stipe is [No. 1 or No. 2] all time."
