Sydney FC have made one of the biggest signings in A-League history, bringing in former Bayern Munich and Juventus forward Douglas Costa to the club.
In one of the biggest coups in the competition's history, Costa arrived after the Brazilian club Fluminense had recently released him.
He will join the Sky Blues on a two-year contract.
Costa's career has seen him become a three-time Juventus and Bayern Munich championship winner. Primarily a left-winger, he has also had stints with Shakhtar Donetsk and LA Galaxy.
He has also represented the Brazilian national team 31 times alongside Neymar, Roberto Firmino, and Marcelo, including being a 2018 FIFA World Cup squad member.
“I have been part of some incredible teams throughout my career, winning many titles and I have come to Sydney FC to win more,” Costa said in a statement on Monday.
“Football is in my blood and I arrive in Australia to raise the game in this country, entertain the passionate sporting public and bring silverware to Sydney FC.
“I'm excited to get to know the people, the country and seeing all the fans of every club.”
Alongside his football career, Costa, 33, has amassed a large social media following, with over 13 million followers, more than any Australian athlete, such as Sam Kerr, Pat Cummins, Reece Walsh, and Ben Simmons.
“It's exciting to be able to attract a player of the calibre of Douglas Costa to Sydney FC,” Sydney FC Ufuk Talay said.
“He is a world class talent with 24 career trophies. His experience and knowledge will be a positive influence on the playing group.”
