Details behind the Sydney Thunder's decision to terminate Fazalhaq Farooqi's contract have come to light, with the Afghanistan fast bowler reportedly cut from the club after the 22-year-old allegedly harassed a female staff member at the Thunder.
On Friday it was revealed Farooqi would no longer be part of the Thunder's squad following a hearing held by Cricket Australia's Conduct Commissioner.
Following the ruling made by the Commissioner, the Sydney Thunder opted to terminate Farooqi's contract after the club received a complaint about his behaviour following an incident last Thursday.
According toย CODE Sports,ย an alleged incident involving a female cricket staff member was brought to the club's attention.
The matter was referred to Cricket Australia's integrity Unit, who conducted an investigation into the alleged incident, while police have not been involved.
Cricket NSW CEO Lee Germon said Cricket NSW and the Sydney Thunder hold all employees to utmost accountability and to a high standard.
โThe behaviours displayed by Fazalhaq Farooqi sit outside our values and it was determined that his contract be terminated,โ Germon said.
โOur focus now is providing the necessary support to those affected by this incident.โ
Farooqi, who has been sent back to his home nation of Afghanistan, played four matches in the BBL|12 season, taking five wickets.
