Tennis matches are known for their longevity spanning many hours, with the longest of the long matches through history needing multiple days to be completed.

It's exceptionally rare though to have a game that is over within one hour.

But there have been examples, where players are simply outclassed by their opponents - and we aren't talking about retirements where the game never actually finishes. We are talking completed matches.

Below we look at the shortest matches in tennis history both female and male.

  1. Jack Harper defeated J Sandiford 6-0, 6-0 in the 1946 Surrey Open Hard Court Championships, the match was completed in 18 minutes.
  2. Suzanne Lenglen defeated Molla Mallory 6-2, 6-0 in the 1922 Wimbledon Final, the match was completed in 23 minutes.
  3. Margaret Court defeated Darlene Hard 6-1, 6-1 in the 1963 Eastern Grass Court Championships, the match was completed in 24 minutes.
  4. Helen Wills defeated Joan Fry 6-2, 6-0 in the 1927 Wightman Cup, the match was completed in 24 minutes.
  5. Francisco Clavet defeated Jiang Shan 6-0, 6-0 in the 2001 Heineken Open Shanghai, the match was completed in 25 minutes.
  6. Suzanne Lenglen defeated Joan Fry 6-2, 6-0 in the 1925 Wimbledon Final, the match was completed in 25 minutes
  7. Jarkko Nieminen defeated Bernard Tomic 6-0, 6-1 in the 2014 Miami Masters, the match was completed in 28 minutes
  8. Steffi Graf defeated Natasha Zvereva 6-0, 6-0 in the 1988 French Open Final, the match was completed in 34 minutes.
  9. William Renshaw defeated John Hartley 6-0, 6-1, 6-1 in the 1881 Wimbledon Final, the match was completed in 36 minutes.
  10. Fred Perry defeated Gottfried von Cramm 6-1, 6-1, 6-0 in the 1936 Wimbledon Final, the match was completed in 40 minutes.
