Melbourne Victory are anxiously waiting for the results of scans on what appears to be a serious knee injury for veteran striker Archie Thompson, as the A-League champions recorded a 3-1 win over Adelaide United in the FFA Cup quarter final last night.

Thompson's knee was caught under Adelaide defender Michael Marrone during his side's FFA Cup Quarter Final meeting with Adelaide United and had to be stretchered off the field after receiving medical treatment with just 10 minutes remaining.

It took the gloss away from what was an impressive win from the Victory over their fierce rivals Adelaide, knocking the reigning champs out of the competition.

Earlier Gui Finker struck a wonderful free-kick to put the hosts ahead after Fahid Ben Khalfallah was fouled on the edge of the box by Osama Malik.

Melbourne would go on to add another before half-time with a well placed ball by Ben Khalfallah finding New Zealand International Kostsa Babarouses at the back post, making for an easy tap in.

Adelaide pulled one back from the spot through Argentine Marcelo Carrusca, however, Victory would go on to kill the game off with Thompson finding his way around the goalkeeper only to be fouled by Eugene Galekovic, with the keeper lucky not be sent off. Besart Berisha easily converted his penalty to cement a spot in the semi finals with a 3-1 win, where a potential meeting with cross-town rivals Melbourne City awaits.

In the night's other tie, Hume City needed extra-time to get the better of Oakleigh Cannons, coming from 2-1 down to win 3-2 after 120 minutes to make the semi finals.

Hume midfielder Theo Markelis scored a brace before Marcus Schroen nicked home the winner.

Oakleigh midfielder Sean Rooney got his side off to fast start, scoring within three minutes, before Dean Piemonte responded to Markeli's equalizer to put the visitors in front.

However, the Cannons were unable to hang on, exiting the competition.

Tonight's games will see Heidelberg United take on Melbourne City at Olympic Park Village in Heidelberg West and Perth will play host to Western Sydney Wanderers. Both games kicking off at 8:30pm AEST.
