Max Verstappen's father, and former F1 driver, Jos Verstappen, has lashed out at the FIA after they penalized his son for overtaking the third placed Ferrari of Kimi Raikkonen at the USGP on Sunday.
Max, who started from 16th on the grid due to engine penalties, fought his way through the field to fourth place on the penultimate lap and he was right in the drs zone of Kimi Raikkonen and looking for the right place to make the move.
Finally, on the last lap, the Dutchman gave it all he had and when Kimi moved across to defend the position, Max put all four wheels off the track to complete the move, rather than running into the Ferrari and risk taking them both out of the race and possibly taken a penalty at the next event in Mexico.
However, moments later, in record time for the FIA actually, as Max was in the cool down room with winner Lewis Hamilton and second placed man Sebastian Vettel, the news came down that he was handed a five second time penalty for overtaking off the track.
It was actually very unsettling to watch as the young Dutchman, who was so proud in one moment, had his heart ripped out the next as Kimi walked into the cool down room and he was told that he was not to be there, as his third place had been taken away from him.
After the race, father Jos took to twitter to voice his displeasure at the situation, and even Red Bull team boss Christian Horner complained that other drivers had been putting all four wheels off the track all weekend with no consequences, including the Mercedes of Valtteri Bottas when was defending against a Ferrari.
Now, Verstappen snr has labelled the FIA Ferrari International Assistance to voice his displeasure at the penalty.
