Australian opener David Warner has labelled Cricket Australia's six-month extension offer to former coach Justin Langer as a "kick in the face".

Langer resigned from his post after being tabled the offer, which came amid growing speculation over Langer's tenure.

Tension among the Australian cricketing team culminated during their Ashes series last summer, with Langer departing from the role a month after the final Test of the series against England.

The former Australian batsman was given the chance to continue coaching Australia across all formats for another six months, a deal that would've taken him until the T20 World Cup on home soil - a tournament Australia failed to succeed in.

The Aussies have managed to piece together a strong record within the current World Test Championship cycle to be in the driver's seat for a spot in the final later this year, but the chapter of Langer's departure will also be a dark stain on team's strong 2022 campaign.

Langer's exit was is a key chapter in the second season of the Australian cricket documentary The Test, which features behind-the-scenes details of the Australian squad.

Warner, speaking in the documentary, said the short-term extension wasn't the right move by Cricket Australiaย but admitted Langer had lost some of the dressing room.

"He wanted to keep coaching. It was a bit of a kick in the face to offer him a six-month contract," the 36-year-old is quoted, viaย AAP.ย

"He lost a fair few players, and probably the wrong players."

The Test also uncovers comments from players Nathan Lyon, Usman Khawaja, Josh Hazlewood and captain Pat Cummins speaking on Langer's coaching and exit, with the latter stating the call to part ways with Langer came with little surprise.

"The Ashes, it all came to a head because his contract came up," Cummins says.

"There was nothing out of the blue. We had spoken about a lot of these things over the previous 18 months to two years.

"He was brilliant when we needed him in those initial years."

The Test is set to be released on January 13 through service Amazon Prime Video and will also cover Cummins' appointment as captain and the scandal that embroiled former skipper Tim Paine.
