Since 2020, the National Basketball Association (NBA) has opted not to let the regular season configure its playoff picture, instead choosing to run a crapshoot before the crapshoot: the play-in tournament.
Using the Page-McIntyre system, the 7th and 8th best teams in the East and West do battle with one another, with the 9th and 10th playing off in do-or-die dates.
While none of these win-to-get-in teams have won it all since 2000, the expanded playoff picture allows for teams with thinner records to dream the same dreams as the association's elite.
