Jamie Whincup secured the 74th pole position of his Supercar career this afternoon and it was definitely well deserved!

Yesterday's wet conditions continued for today's qualifying, however the rain had intensified overnight. At the start cars were going off, including Alex Rullo, who had a ovely trip across the track and grass and into the gravel.

The session was red flagged after the start was delayed for twenty minutes, due to the conditions.

When the boys got back out there it was no holds barred as they all jostled for top spot in the extremely wet conditions.

Pole position actually changed hands several times after the chequered flag had fallen, but it was Whincup who emerged at the top of the pile when all was said and done.

The Red Bull Holden Racing driver, who had spent the better part of the night at the local hospital with good friend Will Davison, who was injured in yesterday's 13 car pile-up in race one, knows how important this pole position is….

“They're crazy conditions. We pushed hard, it was on the limit under brakes. Qualifying in the top 5 is critical. We're earning our money today,” he said when handed the $1000 Amoral pole position cheque.

Scott McLaughlin will start alongside Whincup on the front row of the grid with Chaz Mostert and Tim Slade on row two, van Gisbergen and Fabian Coulthard on row three, Todd Kelly and Craig Lowndes on row four and David Reynolds and Cameron Waters on row five.
