The Bathurst 1000 is a 1,000 touring car race held yearly on the Mount Panorama circuit, which is held on New South Wales Labour Day long weekend in early October. The race is known as the Great Race within the motorsport world and fans. The race is a part of the Supercar Championships.

Over the years there have been a number of top drivers winning the event several times, though the driver who has won the event the most amount of times, is Peter Brock who won it nine times between 1972 and 1987 and is referred to as the 'King of the Mountain'.

Since 2006, the winner of the Bathurst 1000 is awarded the Peter Brock Trophy, named after Peter Brock, who tragically died in an accident.
