Young Matildas star and Sydney FC defender Kirsty Fenton has decided to remain at the Sky Blues for a further two seasons until the end of the Liberty A-League 2025-26 season.
A star in the making, Fenton is a two-time Championship winner with Sydney FC and has been a vital piece to the club's success over the past few seasons since joining from the Newcastle Jets.
Unfortunately, Fenton's most recent season was cut short after rupturing her ACL with three matches to go in the regular season.
However, she has confirmed that she will be back on the field in January or February for the backend of the upcoming season.
“It's exciting to sign for two years, I'm blessed to be here under Ante [Juric] and in this environment with the girls,” she said.
“It's helped me learn so much both on and off the field and having the experience of the leadership group Nat [Tobin], Macca [Hawkesby], Charlotte [Mclean], Cortnee [Vine], Jada [Whyman] and Prinny [Ibini], I'm so lucky to be here and I wouldn't be the person I am today.
“The experience and professionalism here makes you want to work hard and not let anyone down.
“I'm privileged to be a part of this and it's very hard to keep a spot here, so to stay for two more seasons is great.”
Playing as a left-back, she has been earmarked as the next Australian women's player to make it overseas and previously represented the Young Matildas (U20s) in the FIFA U20 Women's World Cup alongside the likes of Sarah Hunter and Charlie Rule - both of whom have made the move to overseas clubs.
Her time at the World Cup saw her play against Costa Rica, Brazil and Spain, while she has donned the Sky Blues jersey on 36 occasions.
“Kirsty had two outstanding campaigns until injury robbed her of the chance to complete last season,” coach Ante Juric said.
“She is a higher level player with all around ability and excellent on field attributes.
“She also gives us great versatility in different positions when we need it so it's a real bonus that she has re-signed for us.
“We hope her recovery goes well enough for her to be available for a large part of our next campaign.”
